Here we are again, the world is spinning onward, the days counting down until... Yuletide!!!! And not just the hollyday, but also the fic exchange! And that's why we're all here, isn't it? For the chance to write and read a story as the winter draws in.

If it does not, or if you and your Mewses have a different idea, as long as it stays clear of the DNW list, pounce! It's likely going to be a better story anyway, for being the one that Callls to you.

Onward!

God/dess what a YEAR, after what a YEAR!! So the furrst and most important DNW this year is excessively stress-full stories.

That means NO to:

💥 animal abuse or killing - on- or off-stage (INCLUDES fantasy-type monsters!!!!)
💥 PWP or graphic sex
💥 pandemic stories
💥 A/B/O dynamics
💥 rape/dubcon/underage
💥 infidelity (non-traditional relationships such as poly, is fine, but no sneaking around)
💥 shaming of any kind, esp. embarassment & bullying

🌻Enchanted Forest Chronicles - Patricia Wrede

I love these books for the gentle loyalty and friendship within. The characters actually talk to each other and work things out and stand by each other with as much fierceness as the situation requires.

A story of that, please and thank you. What, exactly, is between you and your Mewses. Just give me a story that shows these characters being their Awesome Selves. Winter hollydays not a requiredment/requirement and a nice bit of icing if it fits with your story.

While not nominated for this Universe, any worldbuilding that you'd like to add in will delight.

As to who is included in your tale, as many of the nominated characters as will appropriately fit is wonderful, but there are no required characters or sets of characters.

🌻 Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms - Mercedes Lackey

I love the realism set against the magick in this Universe, as well as an amazing set of characters being awesome. Elena is amazing and Bella such a delightfully sensible heroine. I would prefer if both Elena and Bella could show up in the story as well as the worldbuilding, but if that doesn't work out for your story, no worries!

🌻 For this Universe, the furrst thing that comes to mind (and extra-optional because of Non-Nominated Characters) is a fix-it fic where the Huntsman isn't the villian and doesn't betray Bella and his kin).

🌻 Another thought would be to play with celebrating the Winter Hollydays - how are they celebrated and by whom? how do those celebrations change from King's Court to the common folk of Bella's town to the people of the valley beyond the Werewolf's home? How does Elena and hers celebrate them? How are they celebrated across the Kingdoms and how do they change across the Kingdoms?

I absolutely ADORE these movies!!!! Their sweet portrayals of gentle rebellions that change lives for the better, that being true to yourself is the best way to be, and that worship of a Diety does NOT have to be stuffy and boring and better if it is not are simply so amazing, it's hard to find words.

Ah, Reverend Mother and Doris/Sister Mary Clarence! They've both seen so much. They both are entrusted with the leadership of others. They both have been in danger of time passing them by.

If you feel called to share a story of Christmas (and/or the respect-full coming together of Winter Hollyday celebrators of different faiths and how that works), that would be fab, tho' not required.

Give me more story set in this amazing universe. Hilda & her animals are such wonderful friends - share a story of that. Purr-haps even a tale of the animals interacting with the people coming to do Hilda's shoot - I see a lot of potential humor there.

Again, MidWinter hollydays not required - and a loverly addition.

Such a sweet Universe! Hilda is at peace with herself and the world around her - I am in awe of her for that.

Scarlet Pimpernel - Percy, Marguerite, Armand, Chauvelin

This movie was the favorite of my childhood. The characters, the casting, all so beautiful and nearly-perfect, all so left me wanting more.

So give me more of the love, wherever your Muse(s) may call. Following are suggestions only:

❧ Marguarite coming to terms with being the wife of the Scarlet Pimpernel. I’m presuming she joins his Merry Band, as the cat is rather Out of the Bag at the end of the movie.

❧ Armaund balancing Protective Brother and Member of the League.

❧ Percy coming to terms with Marguerite becoming part of the League, in no uncertain terms. (Because, honestly, I can’t see her not joining in.)

❧ Chauvelin – I like this movie-version of him. I would love reassurance that he makes it out okay. Does he become converted to Percy’s politics? Does he get rescued by the League after his failure? Please try to include some of the others if you go this route.

❧ Love becomes heated in times of stress and close quarters. What does love look like in the League? Do they play at home (i.e., between themselves, whatever that may look like)? Do they have mistressesor other paid company? How do they balance love with secrecy?

❧ Does Marguerite recruit other actresses to join the League and help in the ways that only women can?

I know nothing about this Universe except that I like the pictures I see.

Tell me about these horses.

❧ Did the artist see these horses in their dreams before creating them? Are they based on mortal horses the artist has known? (This does not have to match whatever the reality of them is.)

❧ What are their histories? Are they foci for magickal beings of some sort – fairies, angels, horse spirits, some other kindly spiritual being??? Do they have a horse-flesh counterpart somewhere – of whatever size? Do they come to life themselves?

❧ Allow your Muse(s) to roam and tell me a story. I’m curious and would love to hear your tale.

Fandom-specific DNW = onstage or graphic animal abuse. If there is animal abuse here, please keep it offstage with the animal specifically saved & healed, even if only by being immortalized in one of these horses.

Red Bull “UFO” Commercial - extraterrestrial, cashier, outside customers 1&2

I adore this commercial with SUCH a Hard-Core Adore, I cannot even tell you (tho’ of course I’ll try).

I love the way that the extraterrestrial’s visit is so not-a-thing. They are simply another customer and the only comment on the subject is a kindly teasing one about the popularity of the beverage. Proving, of course, that caffeine is Universal, and universally loved.

❧ So tell me a story about these people – on both sides of the spaceship.

❧ How does the cashier feel about the visits by this being? It’s clearly been going on a long time.

❧ How does the extraterrestrial feel about it? They seem happy enough - was this true all along or was it something they had to get used to along the way?

❧ What was the Journey towards the kind of casualness – on both sides?

❧ Does the government ever try to interfere and how do the locals handle that?

❧ Also, why Red Bull? Is there something specific that drew them to the drink?

❧ And have they ever partaken of the food at the lunchcounter? Purr-haps a story of a time when they did.

❧ While I only had room to nominate four characters, feel free to add in the waitress and the lunch counter customers, if you feel so inspired.

Fandom-specific DNWs = extraterrestrial-bashing, fear-biting around the subject of extra-terrestrial visitation (if you’re not comfortable writing this from a positive point of view, then please do not write this Universe for me), governmental kidnapping of human or extraterrestrial.


The Hunt for Red October: Ramius, Borodin, Mancuso, Ryan

This movie came at at time in my life when it was the perfect story for me: I must have seen it at least twenty times in the theater – at least ten first-run and at least ten second-run (back when they still had such things). I was pleasantly surprised to find it in the tag set again this year – it means that someone else loves the interaction of Ramius and Borodin enough to nominate them as well as Jack Ryan & Bart Mancuso this year.

So, yes, I love the relationship Ramius and Borodin have with each other – the loyalty, the willingness to speak truth to power, the clear friendship that underlies the military loyaty.

Give me a story of them – from their past, from their future (if this, please let Vasily live) – whatever calls to you and your Muses.

❧ How do they handle their future, far from the sea? In the film, it sounds like Vasily will be okay with it – with his round American woman who will raise rabbits and cook them for him (tho’ how does this Dream stand up to the Modern American Woman?) - but Ramius? So much of who he is is tied up with the sea – can he truly be happy giving it up, even tho’ it was for the noblest of causes? Will it, can it be enough?

❧ Are there moments when he regrets, just a little, what he did? Does he wish there could have been another way? If not, what does he do instead?

❧ Is he okay with fishing on his faraway river? Or does he long for something more?

Jack Ryan & Bart Mancuso and Vasily Borodin & Marco Ramius are reflections of each other. The two captains, the two no-captains. The love of the sea and the willingness to Get It Done, no matter what it takes. The willingness to think outside the box and save the day.

❧ Tell me a tale of that. Afters, or before, tho’ of course the befores will be separate. I just love and respect these characters so much and love the casting and what each of these actors brought to the party.

Shortest form: give me more of these awesome, powerful, competent men. Let Vasily live and have the life he deserves, his loyalty rewarded. If you can fit in some of the humor like was in the film, give yourself some Extra Enormous Sparkle Points.

Breaking Cat News – any

❧ Give me Kitty Hijinks! More of the little things looming large like happens in the strip.
❧ Also, being that we are in the digital age, are the kittehs doing some kind of LiveStream with their news show? Let your Muse(s) roam freely!

Fandom-specific DNW: no kitty tragedies or animal abuse. And yes, I know that Kittehs Postdate by Predation for their very lives, and are Obligate Carnivores, etc., but I’d rather not have graphic evidence of that in the story. (Tho’ you could have them bringing a Live Gift which is rescued and released and the cat thanked.)


Quantum Leap - Al, Sam

A show of my younger years, one that means a lot to me.

❧ I adore the friendship of Al & Sam so much. The lengths they will go to for each other. The unshakable loyalty. Tell me a tale fo that. Feel free to include descriptions of Al’s Loud Costuming of the Day and Ziggy being a Cantankerous Computer, as well as any others of the Merry Band that you and your Muse(s) would like to include.

❧ IF you’re up for it, a continuation fic for the last episode which wasn’t supposed to be would be utterly and totally fab! (Never read the book which apparently does that, so feel free to go your own way with that.)

❧ A tale of Al’s going down the Rabbit Hole utterly kicking & screaming. And did he ever see anything when he was up in space? IRL, there are lots of reports beginning to come out from astronauts seeing extraterrestrial spacecraft & the like.

❧ Al going to Al’s Place. Learning the ‘hard’ way that no, Sam isn’t crazy, and yes, this stuff is real.

ETA: While see Fandom-specific DNW, at the same time, some non-sexual toching/cuddling/holding between the two of them coud be very sweet. Al having a flashback? Sam remembering and grieving? The frustrations of not being able to touch in this instance? The need overcoming their disbelief to allow it to happen? (And what would THAT lead to?)

This has been a year of New Things. This may as well be another one.

Anyway.

‘allo, Yuletide Writer! Goat of Awesome Words!

Thank you for agreeing to write a story for me! (And if you are considering a Treat, thank you all the more!)

I’ve been told that my Prompts can be intimidating. This is not intended to be the case. I am really, truly, an easygoing purr-son to write for, even tho’ (especially tho’?) I have definite things I like and don’t like. I love, love, love when people write a story for me – it’s a harkening back to childhood, I think, when you get read to. And this is like that, except more – because this story is being given to YOU.

So, in the interests of making things easier, I’ve found words to put my most pressing DNWs into a simple list, which goes as follows:

From purr-sonal experience, I know that to write a story you are not into is to write a story that is not your best. And I’d far rather have your Best Story, than one that slavishly follows a prompt and is half-hearted and a pain for you to write.

Green Arrow (Comics)

Oliver Queen does complicated and emotionally messy. Nowhere does this show up more clearly than in his relationship with Dinah Lance.

Two wounded people who often can’t tell each other what they need, who’ve lived so long with the mask, they’ve forgotten they can take it off.

Tell me a story of them and of the people around them. Tell me a story of them being brave, taking the mask off with each other, not just their clothes. This will be an exception to the no-smut rule, since in canon, bed was often the one place they’d be real with each other.

How does such a revelation (or the lack of one, if that’s the way your Muse bounces) impact Oliver’s sons? How does that change their relationship with him – or does it?

Give me the people-side of this – behind the masks, with the masks. How do the choices they all make affect them and the people around them – both on the hero-ing side and in the general population?

I have to admit, I’m not as interested in the nighttime here, except as it purr-tains to the day. I’m way more interested in the people themselves than fight scenes. (see DNW list)

Past that, have at it! There are still a million-million stories in this Universe, and so many yet to be written!

EDS Cat Herders (Commercial)

It brought me great joy to see this in Yuletide. I’ve loved this commercial ever since I first saw it in its SuperBowl line-up back in the day.

So tell me a story of this world – why are cats herded? Is there a purr-actical reason? Is it religious or have other symbolic significance? Is it a rite of passage, giving prestige to the successful? Why (and how) does someone choose to become a Cat Herder? Or do they get to choose? Are they chosen instead? If so, how?

What is it like from the cats’ points of view? How do they feel about being herded? Are they happy? Content? Resigned? Outraged? Rebellious?

Anything from this world would be awesome. (Paw-some? :D )

Scarecrow & Mrs King (Lee Stetson)

There are depths to our boy – depths that weren’t all explored in canon.

Give me a story of those depths – how he feels, why he does what he does. Either a story from his past, before the show, or one from after the show ends.

How has his life changed over the years? With getting older? With developing a relationship with Amanda King? How has his life changed as the world has changed?

And, something that came to me as I was pondering my Yuletide choices – was that initial exchange really an accident, a desperation move that ended up working out? Or was it planned? Did the Agency have their eyes on Amanda all along?

This was one of my favorite shows back in the day, so any chance to revisit this Universe would be wonderful.

Speaking of hidden depths, the Admiral has them too.

Tell me a tale – from his past, from the time Sam was in the Bar, something else that attracts you and your Muse – that shows us the passionate, loyal man he is.

Another thought – after the show ends, does he ever tell his wife about how he came back to her? Does she continue to remember the old time-line or does it fade? Does she encourage Al to try and help Sam? Does Al try? Is he successful?

This was another of my fave shows back in the day, so again, anything you’d care to write would be most awesome + appreciated.

Progressive Commercials Universe – Flo, Jamie

I’ve been fascinated by the world that is being slowly revealed by these commercials and would love to know more. Any kind of day-in-the-life or other story about how things go and why would be great.

While not nominated and therefore extra-optional, it would be kyool to see about how extra-commercial things like the Progressive-takes-over-the-room phenomenon and how extra-commercial beings like Box fit into the whole scheme of things.

As far as I’m concerned, they don’t make enough of these commercials, so anything you’d care to add to the canon would be wonderful.

Red Dwarf – The Cat, Kryton

I just gotta know – does the Cat ask Kryton for help with his wardrobe-maintenance? Does Kryton say ‘yes’? Getting a mental image of the Cat wheeling in one of his wardrobe-racks on a day that Kryton is ironing and asking him to do.
